Think Feet First is a new initiative to inspire us to stop and think about how we make short journeys.
There will always be some trips for which we need to use the car or public transport, but for the short little hops walking makes sense. Not only is it an easy way to keep healthy and in shape, it's free.
Think Feet First was launched with a London wide poster campaign. Each of the posters uses an often overlooked truth to show how walking can benefit us all. It isn't rocket science but they are little reminders of the benefits of going by foot that prompt us to ask, can I walk it?
In partnership with Natural England we have provided Walking Ambassador walking roadshow schemes in a number of London boroughs – giving Londoners the chance to join 195 Think Feet First led walks. If you're interested in going on a led walk in your local community visit Walking the way to Health website or check out our calendar of upcoming walking events.
The final strand of the Think Feet First campaign saw 47 projects being run by local NHS Primary Care Trusts and Trusts to encourage staff to get more active.
